Well, people have urged me to continue with this blog and not lose hope but they are all lazy bastards who are hopless. So anyways I am still posting and Gabe has also posted some stuff so drop by and give him a critique if you get a chance.

The new topic is Insect Monarchy which I think is fairly open to interpretation wether it brings to mind a layout or a single character or a slough of them. whatever. Just post them damn you.

An extra week for topic #3

So talking to those people who have actually still been working on the topics on this blog it seems that most would benefit from an extra week to work on it so I think we should hold off on the new topic until next Monday.

I will be posting a few differant takes on the current topic tommorrow and encourage others to do so. That way while you work on it more this week then you can incorporate ideas from any critiques you may recieve over the next few days.

RADIOACTIVE AIRSHIP PILOT

Alrighty everyone, as you see the new topic is Radioactive Airship Pilot. If it inspires a ship design, a character design, or a layout....or all of those, then have at it. I think this one has a lot of potential for a diverse array of characters so I look forward to seeing everyones take on it.

Ancient Treant...In other words a really old tree dude.

Okay so as the title of this post indicates The new character is an ancient Treant. If you want referance for previous designs the most obvious is the lord of the rings movies but there are lots of peoples takes on this out there. Hopefully we can come up with some unique ones.

I would also like to add that if the topic gives you an idea for an environment or vehicle or anything else that you can relate to the topic then feel free to explore that.

The previous topic will be posted tommorrow by at least a few of us so I hope people visit each others sites over the next week and see what others came up with.

Oh yeah and again any ideas for topics can be made by leaving comments on these topic posts. Thanks.

FIRST TOPIC

O.K. So the J-bomb(Josh) decided that for the first topic I should pick an adjective and he would choose a noun and as a result we have: OBEDIENT TYRANNOSAURUS.

So the first post will take place on the monday after the long weekend. Thats May 14th.

If you want to post earlier or a day or two later that is fine but if you post too late people may not give a crit. Also you will have less time for the following topic as we will post it here on Monday.

If anyone has questions, an idea for a topic, or a change to how we choose them just comment on this post and we'll make sure to check it out. ALSO PLEASE READ THE PREVIOUS POST.

Here's the Jist of it...

Hello all. A few of us decided to start up a bi-weekly character design challenge to excercise our conceptual drawing abilities over the summer of 07.

Basically this blog will serve as a hub with links to all the participants chosen posting sites so as to cut down on our time commitment to keeping this blog up to date. So if you want to participate you are welcome to post wherever and as long as we have a link to that site on this blog then you should get feedback and crits.

That brings me to the last requirement to be a part of this character workshop: Helpful and Constructive critiques. We are expecting anyone who participates by posting their artwork to also take the time to check out other peoples work and give a critique that will help the artist improve or think of their character from a differant perspective. If you only have time to give 4 or 5 crits through that two week period then make sure you don't critique the same artist every time. The strength of this excercise is to gain insight into how to develope a character concept through many differant perspectives.

Lastly I'll say that I will be checking as many peoples postings as I can every week and encourage you all to do so as well so they can have feedback at an earlier stage of development. All that being said I think two weeks is a lot of time to get some good conceptual work done. Be it cartoony, dark, realistic, or twisted we welcome you all to participate.
